In a play to increase the e-commerce capabilities of its platform, Facebook recently launched a mobile-only feature called Marketplace. In Marketplace, Facebook users will be able to post items for sale, which will be shown to potential buyers in their area. For now, Facebook isn’t taking a cut, but is looking at this as a test for the future. According to Clarus Commerce CEO Tom Caporaso, in these early stages, Facebook will not only be able look at the e-commerce possibilities, but will be able to build consumer data treasure trove which could help them increase ad revenues down the road.
